The European Astronomical Society Annual Meeting slated for 29th June-3rd July 2020 in Leiden, the Netherlands will hold a special session on 30 June 2020 tagged: “Africa-European collaborations in astronomy and space science: room to grow”.

The session is in recognition of some astronomical milestones in the continent, and as such will leverage the occasion to torchlight these developments in space science and astronomy.

The event will also serve as a platform to deliberate on promoting collaboration between Africa and Europe, with emphasis on consolidating and expanding collaborations between European and African researchers, highlighting forthcoming opportunities for new astronomy and space science infrastructure development in Africa, exploration of existing and potential human capital development initiatives in Africa; the continent’s vision for hosting the General Assembly of the International Astronomical Union in Cape Town in 2024,  and building strong links and possible joint programmes between African Astronomical Society (AfAS) and European Astronomical Society (EAS).

Speakers at the occasion include Takalani Nemaungani, Jamal Mimouni, Heino Falcke and David Baratoux.

Abstract submission for the session is still open until 2 March. Interested individuals are invited to submit their abstracts here.
