Q-KON Expands Twoobii Smart Satellite Services for Luxury Tourism and Hospitality in Southern Africa

Q-KON, a satellite engineering enterprise and managed service provider, has announced the expansion of its Twoobii Smart Satellite Services. The services are designed for the operational and connectivity needs of the hospitality and tourism sector in Southern Africa.

Luxury hospitality is growing across the region, but infrastructure needs differ sharply from one market to another. Q-KON says its Smart Satellite Services portfolio adapts global satellite networks to local requirements, so each operator gets connectivity suited to how it works.

Tailored Services for Different Markets

In South Africa, lodges often rely on terrestrial wireless, microwave, or LTE, but they face frequent link failures, congestion, and seasonal traffic spikes. To address this, Q-KON introduced the Twoobii-OneWeb Smart Satellite Service, a 70Mbps connection offered under three flexible commercial models:

  • Pay-as-you-go backup: high-throughput redundancy that takes over when local microwave, LTE, or fibre links drop, so operations can continue without interruption.
  • On-demand capacity: operators can increase bandwidth during peak guest bookings, corporate retreats, or conferences without committing to year-round contracts.
  • Seasonal billing: running costs follow guest occupancy cycles, reducing fixed overhead during low-occupancy periods.

Deep-wilderness destinations, such as those in Namibia, have no fixed terrestrial alternatives and rely on satellite as their primary, always-on connection. Q-KON continues to serve this market with continuous LEO and GEO satellite solutions that support daily operations and guest demand.

Field Deployments

Q-KON has deployed these solutions at isolated luxury destinations with regional channel partners, including Echo Namibia:

  • Shipwreck Lodge (Skeleton Coast, Namibia): LEO connectivity for guest Wi-Fi and 24/7 cloud accounting synchronisation, in one of the region’s most extreme environments.
  • Sky and Stone Tented Camps (Damaraland, Namibia): low-latency, solar-efficient satellite links for real-time reservation processing and point-of-sale transactions, without overburdening the camps’ microgrids.
