Eutelsat and InterSAT Extend Partnership with Additional Capacity to Boost Connectivity Across Central and Eastern Africa

Eutelsat Group and InterSAT have announced an expansion of their long-standing partnership through a new multi-year agreement that secures additional Ku-band capacity on the EUTELSAT 7C satellite. The renewed collaboration aims to enhance fixed data services across Central and Eastern Africa, addressing growing demand for reliable, high-throughput connectivity in underserved and remote regions.
Alongside this new deal, InterSAT has also renewed its existing capacity lease on the EUTELSAT 70B satellite. Discussions are underway to further enrich InterSAT’s offering by adding low-Earth orbit (LEO) capacity from OneWeb, part of Eutelsat Group, particularly for markets in East Africa.
InterSAT, a major player in Africa’s satellite communication sector, delivers Internet via Satellite (IvS) services to enterprises, government institutions, and other key sectors across the continent. The extension of its capacity agreements reinforces its commitment to offering high-quality, dependable broadband services that bridge digital divides in even the most remote corners of Africa.
Philippe Baudrier, Vice President for Connectivity, Africa at Eutelsat OneWeb, remarked:
“We are delighted to deepen our relationship with our long-standing partner, InterSAT, to support their growth in Africa. This partnership highlights the ongoing relevance of our powerful geostationary in-orbit assets to deliver a cost-effective and reliable connectivity service to the remotest areas. Furthermore, we are excited to discuss the possibility of adding LEO capacity to further optimise the service offering.”
EUTELSAT 7C, located at 7° East, is a high-power satellite optimised for African markets, while EUTELSAT 70B, stationed at 70.5° East, offers wide beam and high-performance fixed beam coverage, supporting a broad range of data applications with robust onboard connectivity.
Hanif Kassam, CEO of InterSAT, stated:
“With their optimal orbital locations over Africa, EUTELSAT 7C and 70B provide InterSAT with wide coverage and efficiency across the horizon. Additionally, our state-of-the-art teleport investments, leveraged in this solution, provide growth capabilities for our diverse customers in the region. We look forward to adding OneWeb to our service portfolio, whereby our customers across the African continent can benefit from low-latency and reliable connectivity.”
This expanded partnership underscores the complementary strengths of geostationary (GEO) and low-Earth orbit (LEO) systems in delivering scalable and hybrid connectivity solutions for Africa’s evolving broadband landscape.
