As reported by the Angola Management Office of the National Space Program (GGPEN), the Angolan Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication, Mário Oliveira, has disclosed that AngoSat-2 is now ready to provide communications services after the final tests have been carried out on the satellite. Mr Olivera made this statement during a seminar themed “National Space Programme: Valances and Benefits.”

The satellite services will cover the entire African continent and a significant part of Southern Europe in C Band. The satellite will also provide almost complete coverage of southern Africa in Ku Band. In addition, the satellite will provide Angola with the means to minimise the digital divide, allowing equal access to all Angolans to the benefits of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT).

In his opening address at the event, which took place today in Luanda, Dr Zolana João, the Director-General of GGPEN, commended the government’s dedication to advancing the continent’s digital transformation and reiterated the role of digital technologies to Angola’s sustainable development goals.

During his keynote address, Minister Olivera also presented the different projects that make up the National Space Programme, including the benefits of AngoSat-2, the Satellite Mission and Control Center (MCC) and the space applications TECH-Gest, TECH-Agro and TECH-Ecology.
