Kenya’s Signet DTT Connects to AMOS-17 HTS Satellite

Spacecom (Tel Aviv Stock Exchange: SCC), the satellite services provider and owner-operator of the AMOS satellite fleet, announced that Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s Signet DTT (digital terrestrial TV) service is now being broadcast via the advanced AMOS-17 HTS (high throughput satellite) digital satellite. In addition, Spacecom provided an array of on-the-ground professional services that quickly and efficiently migrated Signet’s DTT service to AMOS-17.
Kenya Broadcasting Corporation’s (KBC) Signet broadcasts over 70 TV stations and several radio channels throughout Kenya and South Africa. Furthermore, utilising AMOS-17’s HTS C-band beams, KBC optimises OPEX (operational expenses) and realises significant network performance improvements. In addition, Spacecom’s satellite services division provided full turn-key service migration to 38 sites and a teleport, without loss or interruption of service, all in less than three weeks.
Oren Tepper, Spacecom Vice President Global Sales, stated, “AMOS-17’s strong C-band HTS beams improved signal quality and optimised spectrum utilisation so that Signet could quickly and easily upgrade the content quality and service levels. For this project, Spacecom’s professional services teams achieved a record migration of Signet’s services with no service interruption. We are thrilled to work with KBC’s Signet team and look forward to a strong relationship.”
According to Job Karimi, Technical Services Manager of KBC, “To further improve our service delivery, we migrated our satellite infrastructure to AMOS-17, thereby realising huge savings in operational costs. In addition, thanks to AMOS-17’s HTS capabilities, we created optimal link margins to our remote transmission sites”.
Karimi added, “The migration turnaround time was under very short timelines. Amazingly their highly skilled team and ours seamlessly migrated 38 sites within three weeks without interrupting our transmission schedule. Furthermore, they have been very supportive in our day-to-day operations and are constantly looking into other areas of collaboration to further strengthen our relationship. They are our strategic partners and very core in achieving our mandate.”
