Apply For A Doctoral Scholarship In Theoretical Cosmology

Highly motivated black South African students who aspire to become research academics are invited to apply to study towards a PhD in Astrophysics and Cosmology of Extended Theories of Gravity under the supervision of Professor Peter Dunsby.

The scholarship has a value of R220 000 per annum to cover fees and living costs. Also, each scholar will receive R22 000 for computer equipment and research travel annually.

Shortlisted applicants will be interviewed and expected to deliver a 20-minute oral presentation on a topic of their choice.

Mullard Space Science Laboratory calls For An Associate Professor In Exoplanets

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an Associate Professor position in the field of Exoplanets within the Astrophysics Group at the Department of Space and Climate Physics (Mullard Space Science Laboratory), UCL.

The successful applicant will be expected to pursue a vigorous research programme to boost the fast-growing exoplanet research environment at MSSL. This includes a strong involvement in ESA’s PLATO satellite mission and a new exoplanet research group led by Dr Vincent Van Eylen, as well as a strong Solar System research component. Also, ESA’s Ariel mission is led by the Physics & Astronomy department at UCL.

Applicants should have internationally leading research records, and we are particularly interested in candidates who can maximize the scientific return from our substantial involvement in PLATO. The candidate will also fulfil a teaching responsibility at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Salary: £54,131 to £59,135 per annum

Apply For A Position in Astrophysics At Geneva Observatory

A PhD position in observational astrophysics is available at the Geneva Observatory (University of Geneva), in the “Galaxies and the Universe” research group. The position is for 4 years, starting in early 2020.

The Geneva Observatory and the associated Laboratory of Astrophysics of the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology in Lausanne carry out observational, interpretative and theoretical research in the fields of extra-solar planets, stellar physics, high energy astrophysics, galaxy evolution and dynamics, and observational cosmology.

Candidates are encouraged to send their application before November 4th, 2019, including a CV, motivation letter, list of MSc courses and grades in a single pdf file in an email with the subject “PhD Geneva” to Annalisa De Cia (annalisa.decia@unige.ch).
