Countdown To GMES & Africa And Copernicus Marine Earth Observation Training 2019

The anticipated GMES & Africa and Copernicus Marine Earth Observation Training geared towards teaching the underlying principles of ocean remote sensing, how to access relevant data, and how to work with it using various open-source tools will begin with its online pre-course phase from the 21st of October until the 8th of November followed by the workshop phase which will take place at the Maru Hotel in Zanzibar, Tanzania from the 12th – 20th of November 2019.

The theme “Earth Observation to services across the value chain, is designed to support the development of GMES&Africa activities and Copernicus marine data use around the African continent. Participants will be asked to propose a mini-project that will be attempted with the support of trainers, allowing them to gain skills directly applicable to their work needs.

Participants will be able to complete the online phase at their own pace. The course is open to applicants from any African nation who wish to use satellite data for research and/or operational marine applications.

The workshop is fully funded and the costs of accommodation, meals, visas, and travel will be covered for all successful applicants. Selected participants will be expected to complete the online phase and attend the full duration of the workshop.
