African Space Agency and MEDEF International Sign Partnership Agreement to Advance Africa’s Space Sector

The African Space Agency (AfSA) and MEDEF International have signed a three-year partnership agreement to partner and advance different aspects of Africa’s space sector. The agreement was formalised in Paris by Dr Tidiane Ouattara, President of the AfSA Council, and Denis Mercier, Co-President of MEDEF International’s NewSpace Task Force. The signing ceremony was attended by numerous business leaders, start-ups and established industry players, reflecting the growing ties between AfSA and French companies. Additionally, this marks the first collaboration of its kind between the African Union and a European employers’ association.

Partnership Cooperation Areas
This partnership is the culmination of over two years of dialogue and joint efforts, which have laid the groundwork for mutual trust and a shared vision for the development of the space sector. Furthermore, under the agreement, the two organisations will cooperate in several key areas:
- Development of Africa’s space sector and its applications.
- Promotion of innovation, skills transfer, and knowledge sharing.
- Collaboration in the field of space economic diplomacy.
- Joint organisation of business forums dedicated to space.
- Engagement on financial, legal, and regulatory frameworks

The agreement is set to strengthen Africa’s space ecosystem and deepen collaboration between African and European enterprises, with French companies signalling their readiness to participate in the continent’s rapidly expanding space economy.
