GGPEN and SES Satellites Sign MoU to Advance Angola’s Space Programme

The Angolan National Space Program Management Office (GGPEN) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with SES Satellites, one of the world’s leading satellite operators, in a ceremony held in Luxembourg last week, aimed at advancing Angola’s space programme.
This strategic partnership marks a significant milestone in expanding satellite connectivity across Africa.
Expanding Digital Inclusion Across Africa
The collaboration aims to enhance Angola’s space capabilities, promote innovation and technical training, and critically, extend the reach of ANGOSAT-2 and the Connecta Angola initiative to more African communities.

This expansion will reinforce the core objectives of Connecta Angola, which was launched in 2023 to bridge the digital divide across the nation by targeting underserved state institutions, including schools, hospitals, and municipal administrations with limited internet access, through free connectivity powered by the ANGOSAT-2 satellite.
The initiative has already enabled the deployment of satellite kits by startups and internet service providers, bringing reliable connectivity to previously unserved areas and supporting critical services such as e-learning, digital banking, and smart agriculture across remote regions. SES operates a sophisticated multi-orbit network spanning GEO, MEO, and LEO satellites, delivering coverage to 99% of the world’s population, making it an ideal partner for Angola’s ambitious connectivity goals.
With over 360,000 people across 14 provinces already benefiting from telephone and internet services through Connecta Angola, the programme’s impact is set to reach beyond Angola’s borders, positioning Angola as a key player in transforming connectivity into opportunity and advancing Africa’s role in the global space economy.
