Angola’s Space Technology Showcased at Major African Oil & Gas Forum

The National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN), in collaboration with the newly established Geodata Centre (GEDAE), participated in the 6th edition of Angola Oil & Gas (AOG 2025), held in Luanda from September 3 to 4, 2025. The event was officially opened by the President of the Republic of Angola, João Lourenço, and convened ministers alongside senior representatives from leading international energy companies, including Sonangol, BP, Chevron, TotalEnergies and ExxonMobil.
Angola Oil & Gas is the country’s leading platform dedicated to the future of the oil and gas sector, gathering experts, investors, and decision-makers from around the world. Since its first edition, AOG has promoted transformative agreements that have driven Angola’s development as a regional energy powerhouse. In 2025, the conference once again marked a milestone in Africa’s energy sector, consolidating Angola’s role as a market leader.
In his address at the event, organised by the Ministry of Mineral Resources, Petroleum and Gas, President João Lourenço underscored the role of the conference as a strategic platform for promoting investment, strengthening partnerships, and exchanging knowledge across the oil and gas value chain. At Angola Oil & Gas, recognised as one of Africa’s foremost forums for dialogue and innovation in the petroleum sector, GGPEN and GEDAE presented advanced solutions, including Tech-Ecology, a system that detects oil spills using satellite imagery and artificial intelligence, and Tech-Gest, which was ranked in 2022 by IRCAI/UNESCO among the world’s top 100 AI tools.
Showcasing Angola’s Space Technology
Alongside its smart solutions, GGPEN also presented the Ku-band capabilities of the Angosat-2 satellite, which provides coverage across the entire Southern African region and offers attractive opportunities for entrepreneurs and investors. The C-band capacities of Angosat-2 have already been fully commercialised. Operating under the supervision of the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS), the National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN) was established to manage and oversee the implementation of Angola’s space programme.
GGPEN continues to leverage the emerging space economy through strategic partnerships and the development of value-added services for key industries, including oil and gas, finance, and mining, helping to address national and regional challenges. Collaborations with major communications service providers have further supported the expansion of connectivity across the country.
