NigComSat Launches its 2024 Accelerator Programme with 20 Cohorts

The Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat) has officially launched its 2024 accelerator programme at an event held to commemorate the project. The 2024 accelerator programme, set to span 24 weeks, will serve as a dynamic platform for 20 promising Nigerian startups meticulously chosen from an impressive pool of 468 applications submitted to the company. NigComSat, in collaboration with its esteemed partners, intends to cultivate an empowering ecosystem for these select startups characterised by intensive mentorship, cutting-edge resources, and unparalleled growth opportunities to propel these space-tech startups onto the global stage.

According to a press released by NigComSat, the launch event took place at the Communication & Digital Economy Complex in Abuja and was attended by various dignitaries, including the representative of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Mr Cliff Ogbede; the Chairman of the Senate Committee on ICT & Cybersecurity, Sen Shuaib Afolabi Salisu; the Chairman of the House Committee on Digital Communications Technology, Hon Stanley Olajide; the representative of the Permanent Secretary, Federal Ministry of Communications, Innovation, and Digital Economy, Engr Joseph Anagonye; CEOs of Parastatals under the Communications Ministry, including the PMG, NIPOST, represented by Mrs Tola Odeyemi, Acting MD, Galaxy Backbone, represented by Mr Abdul-Malik Suleiman, National Commissioner/CEO, Nigeria Data Protection Commission- NDPC, represented by Dr Vincent Olatunji, and the National Commissioner, Universal Service Provision Fund, represented by Mr Oluyomi Arowosafe.

During her introductory speech at the commencement of the accelerator programme, Jane Egerton-Idehen, NigComSat’s CEO, heralded the occasion as the inaugural step into a transformative era for satellite technology innovation, not only within Nigeria but also extending its impact far beyond national borders.
