The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Egyptian Space Agency, Dr Sherif Sedky, has formally entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Chinese Land Satellite Remote Sensing Application Centre (LASAC). The primary objective of this agreement is to enhance Egypt’s access to remote sensing data, providing valuable insights for informed decision-making in crucial areas. Additionally, the MoU aims to facilitate adequate training opportunities to improve Egypt’s ability to extract actionable intelligence from the obtained data.

The MoU was signed during the inauguration of the China-Africa Cooperation Centre on Satellite Remote Sensing Application, an ideal platform for fostering such collaborative efforts. The Centre’s core mission is to establish a service platform for sharing data and conducting remote sensing monitoring of natural resources in coastal zones. Specifically, the focus is monitoring mangrove forests and providing other ocean-related application services throughout Africa.

This milestone represents another significant stride in the ongoing cooperation between Egypt and China in space exploration. It underlines the enduring strategic partnership between the two nations and reaffirms their commitment to advancing their shared goals in the space sector.
