SASSCAL and WaterNet Sign MoU for Sustainable Water Resources Management in Southern Africa

The Executive Director of the Southern African Science Service Centre for Climate Change and Adaptive Land Management (SASSCAL), Dr Jane Olwoch, and WaterNet’s (Water Research Network) Executive Manager, Prof. Jean-Marie Onema, took a significant step towards collaboration in Water Resources Management. They officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to solidify their partnership and joint efforts in addressing water-related challenges in the region.

The agreement was signed on the sideline of the GMES and Africa Southern African Regional Workshop from 5-7 June 2023 in Luanda, Angola, by SASSCAL and the Council for Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR). This MoU signifies the commitment of both parties to work together towards sustainable water management and enhancing water resources in Southern Africa. By joining forces, they aim to tackle issues such as water scarcity, quality monitoring, and integrated water resource management.
With this MoU, SASSCAL and WaterNet are poised to strengthen their collaboration and capitalise on each other’s expertise. By pooling their resources, research capabilities, and networks, they aim to foster innovative solutions and improve water management practices, ultimately contributing to the well-being and resilience of Southern African communities in the face of water-related challenges.
This workshop is a platform for experts, researchers, policymakers, and stakeholders to share knowledge, exchange ideas, and discuss strategies for harnessing Earth observation data and geospatial information to support sustainable development in the region.
