In a news release by the Angolan National Space Programme Management Office (GGPEN), João Lourenço, the President of Angola, issues the Presidential decree, nº11/23, authorising the commercialisation of ANGOSAT-2 after the completion of the telecommunications satellite’s testing phase. In addition, the President entrusted the overseeing and monitoring processes to Engineer Mario Oliveira, Minister of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication (MINTTICS).

Furthermore, the decree legalises the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies and Social Communication as a sub-delegate to supervise the necessary processes vital to the management and the commercialisation of the satellite, as subject to the legislation and regulations mandated by the Ministry.

ANGOSAT-2 services will cover the entire African continent and a significant part of Southern Europe in C-Band. In addition, the satellite will foster almost complete coverage of southern Africa in Ku-Band and provide Angola with the means to minimise the digital divide, allowing equal access to all Angolans.

The satellite launched aboard the four-stage Russian heavy-lift launch vehicle (Proton-M Blok DM-03 rocket) at the Baikonur Cosmodrome, Kazakhstan, in October 2022, will be monitored, controlled and operated by the GGPEN for the entire duration of its lifetime, 15 years.
