The African training programme hosted by the Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) aimed to enhance cooperation and exchange experiences between the EgSA and African countries in the space sector. The ten days training programme, which commenced on December 11, 2022, was borne out of a partnership between EgSA and the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development (EAPD) to improve the human capital resource in satellite development in Africa.

At the training’s closing ceremony held at the agency’s headquarters, EgSA’s CEO, Dr Sherif Sedky, hosted His Excellency Ambassador Hussein Shawky, Deputy Secretary-General of the Egyptian Agency of Partnership for Development and several other stakeholders to discuss the success of the programme.

Dr Sherif disclosed that the training programme involved 15 trainees from eight African countries trained in the basics of satellite technologies and more innovative trends and practices within the industry from EgSA’s laboratories.

This training was designed in preparation for the launch of the African Space Agency this year to promote capacity building amongst African engineers and scientists and ensure the implementation of objectives from the African Space Policy.

Furthermore, it serves as a platform to strengthen partnerships between African space entities in future missions on a continental level. Thus, the two weeks of training have set the stage for a sustainable linkage between African institutes to raise awareness about space technology and its applications.
