ConnectSAT and Skyroot Sign MOU to Develop OSIRIS Project

ConnectSAT and Skyroot Aerospace have signed a Memorandum of Understanding for future cooperation to explore and develop the African space market for various social applications, monitoring and surveillance solutions through the “OSIRIS” project. The OSIRIS project is a constellation of African satellites for social impact and resource management. The MoU will see Skyroot provide launch services for the OSIRIS project.

The collaboration aims to participate in launching satellites in the African satellite market in the short term. Furthermore, it has a medium-term plan to build, operate and transfer a launch base in Africa. Africa’s space industry is projected to grow to over USD 10.29 billion by 2024, with a growing number of companies and innovations, according to Space in Africa’s African Space Industry’s 2019 Annual Report. Furthermore, the African Space Agency (AFSA)’s creation will promote, advise and coordinate the development and use of space science and technology in Africa in line with AU Agenda 2063.

Skyroot Aerospace is an Indian space launch services provider. The company manufactures and operates its own line of small satellite launch vehicles. Skyroot Aerospace also engages in other engineering services.

ConnectSAT is a French space-for-good company providing satellite connectivity solutions to disconnected populations without hospitals or schools. They provide various applications like telemedicine and e-education in these remote areas. The company also offers solutions to track and monitor natural resources in developing countries using satellite technology.
