The Mauritius Amateur Radio Society (MARS) is fully supporting the MIR-SAT 1 project. Furthermore, its members are deeply involved with the project. Consequently, with the support of Licenced Radio Amateurs, students will get acquainted with radio transmission from Low-Earth Orbit (LEO) satellites and amateur radio in general. In addition, the Society will publish Radio Amateur activities around the MIR-SAT 1 project on this page as the project progresses.

To this end, persons with an amateur ground station who want to access the data from MIR-SAT 1 can decode the telemetry with the following: 

MIR-SAT 1 Frequency

Uplink Frequency: 145.9875 MHz

Downlink Frequency: 436.925 MHz

Beacon Decoders

Mauritius Research and Innovation Council (MRIC), MARS, with close collaboration from the Radio Amateurs Community, developed beacon telemetry decoders for the MIR-SAT 1 satellite. MARS will automatically upload telemetry to SatNogs. Thus, the Society encourages interested persons to download the decoders. This will in turn help support the Society in making this project successful. 

MIR-SAT 1

Mauritius successfully launched the MIR-SAT 1 on Thursday, 3rd of June 2021. The CubeSat subsequently launched onboard the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket (Mission: CRS-22/SpX-22) from the Kennedy Space Centre in Florida. Thus, the satellite had resided in the International  Space Station before its deployment on Tuesday 22nd of June 2021. Mauritius was the winner of the 3rd round UNOOSA/JAXA KiboCube Programme in 2018. Thus, JAXA awarded Mauritius the opportunity to build and deploy a 1U Cube Satellite through the International Space Station (ISS).

The primary objective of the MIR-SAT1 is to acquire satellite technology through the design process, design review, assembly, integration and testing. In parallel, the MRIC has set up a ground station located at its premises in Ebene. It will serve to control and operate the MIR-SAT1. 

The Mauritius Amateur Radio Society, founded in 1968, is the national representative organisation for amateur radio enthusiasts. Membership is open to all who have an interest in amateur radio telecommunications.
