RCMRD Trains Kenyan Meteorologists On GIS And Remote Sensing
Citing the reason for the training on its Twitter page, the Centre noted the exposure of many regions to natural hazards with unique characteristics. With their causes being, possibly, as a result of the frequency of extreme hydro-meteorological events related to climate change and an increase in a vulnerable population; it is, therefore, important to equip meteorologists on how to provide the data needed to manage these events.
The exercise will also equip the targeted officers with the capacities needed to implement an on-going Project on Pest Risk Information Service (PRISE).
During the training, participants will learn about GIS tools and ways to reduce disaster losses as well as the efforts applied for disaster risk management, with a special focus on hazard assessment, elements-at-risk mapping, vulnerability and risk assessment, amongst others.
