About 100 students and young professionals in the African space industry will convene tomorrow at the United Nations Economic Commission for Africa, UN-ECA Hall in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia for the 3rd African Space Generation Workshop, two days before the African Space Leadership Congress 2019, which will also be held at the same venue from 2 – 4 December, 2019.

The two-day workshop gathers delegates from diverse fields (engineering, business, science, arts, medicine and law) from all around Africa to examine, consider and collaboratively stimulate interdisciplinary perspectives on space and scientific matters in Africa.

The delegates exchange will focus on critical space sector opportunities and challenges, global policy initiatives and international cooperation. Participants will have the opportunity to interact with experts from academia, businesses and space agencies through plenary and panel sessions, and interdisciplinary working group discussions. ‘

All discussions are expected to produce recommendations to relevant public, private and non-governmental stakeholders, helping to shape the future of the African space sector. Reports and recommendations from the workshop will be presented at high-level conferences and included in the SGAC annual report submitted to the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space (UN COPUOS).

Following the success of the inaugural workshop in Nigeria in 2017 and the 2nd edition in Mauritius in 2018, the workshop will provide a platform for future leaders of Africa’s space endeavours to proactively establish strong relationships, exchange ideas and knowledge; and to collaborate on brainstorming new ideas and solutions on using space technology for the benefit of Africa. In doing so, these young, passionate minds can help to shape the future of the African space industry.
