African Leadership Conference (ALC) on Space Science and Technology – Abuja, Nigeria
The African Leadership Conference (ALC) on Space Science and Technology for Sustainable Development is an African Regional Conference organized bi-annually to gather all experts and key players in Space Science and Technology in Africa with the view to promoting intra Africa cooperation in the use of space science and technology to support Africa’s development.
The 7th edition of the ALC conference is scheduled to hold in Abuja, Nigeria from the 5th to 7th November, 2018 at the NICON Luxury Hotel. The event is being hosted by the National Space Research and Development Agency on behalf of the Federal Government of Nigeria.

All interested African space professionals and students are invited to apply for the
AU sponsorship which will cover travel and room & board for the duration of the
ALC 2018 Congress. Applicants are invited to note, as shown in the footnote below, the topics that will be considered at the congress and to determine where they can make a
contribution.
1 Those applicants whose scholarly contributions are within the theme of the
conference have a better chance of being offered an AU sponsorship to the
congress.
a) Interested potential Youth participants are invited to submit a fully
completed application for sponsorship to attend ALC 2018. Applications
should include the title and a brief abstract of a proposed presentation,
which should be in line with the topics under consideration at the
conference.
b) Deadline for submission of Sponsorship application is 17th October,
2018

d) Successful applicants will be informed of their selection by the ALC

Topics that will be considered at the ALC 2018 Congress include:
1. Existing initiatives in space for Africa
2. R&D and Innovation in Space Science and Technology in Africa
3. Key elements for the successful implementation of African Space Programme
4. Strategic cooperation and collaboration in space activities in Africa
5. Societal benefits of space science and technology applications in Africa – Application’
best practices (Health, Natural disaster, Communication, Agriculture, Environment
and Climate Change, Marine resources and coastal management, Security and Peace
Keeping etc.)
The 2018 ALC papers presentations will align with the following guiding declarations:
- AU Agenda 2063 – the Africa we want.
- The Sustainable Development Goals:
- UN Space Agenda 2030 in line with UNISPACE+ 50 conference resolution.
- UN guidelines on the Long-term sustainability of Outer Space Activities implication for Africa.
Topic for paper presentations will cover the following thematic areas:
- The role and requirements of Governments, Academia and Africa private sector in the implementation of the African Space Policy and Strategy (ASPS).
- The role of existing and planned space initiatives in Africa, for the implementation of ASPS
- Taking ownership of the African Space Policy and Strategy – the role of Space Agencies, Institutions, Industry and Academia in Africa.
- Existing Global/Regional/National Space Regulations and their impact on the implementation of the ASPS.
- Building the African Space Market for accessibility by the African users.
- The use of Space Industry to grow the African economy.
- African Space program in the next decade.
- A review of Mombasa Declaration of 2011.
