ST Engineering iDirect and Q-KON Partner to Bring Advanced Satellite Ground Connectivity Across Africa

ST Engineering iDirect, a global leader in satellite communications, has announced a strategic partnership with Q-KON, a premier African satellite engineering and service provider, to launch Intuition Unbound across Africa, a move that will significantly lower barriers to entry for businesses and organisations seeking access to premium satellite ground technology.
At the heart of the collaboration is Intuition Unbound, a flexible, scalable, and secure satellite ground connectivity solution that ST Engineering iDirect developed on an as-a-Service model. Unlike traditional arrangements that require substantial upfront capital expenditure, the platform offers predictable, transparent pricing, SLA-backed performance, and enterprise-grade compliance and security.
Under the agreement, Q-KON will provide satellite capacity and teleport facilities in South Africa, whilst ST Engineering iDirect will deliver the platform’s ground connectivity infrastructure. The model promotes a more competitive market landscape, enabling new service providers and enterprises to join the ecosystem and build differentiated value-added services.
Notably, Intuition Unbound leverages scalable infrastructure, advanced Virtual Network Operator (VNO) capabilities, and global bandwidth management technologies to redefine how connectivity is accessed and delivered across the continent.
Accelerating Africa’s Satellite Ecosystem
The partnership will accelerate Q-KON’s and its customers’ time-to-market, opening access to premium satellite ground technology for businesses and organisations of all sizes.
Dr Dawie de Wet, Group CEO of Q-KON, described the deal as a significant step forward. “This partnership is a game-changer for our customers and maps a way forward to deliver sustainable, competitive GEO satellite services,” he said. “It strengthens our ability to leverage the inherent advantages of global GEO platforms, helping businesses grow and deliver value in an increasingly connected world.”
Brian Jakins, SVP Global Sales at ST Engineering iDirect, added: “By making advanced satellite technology accessible to smaller providers and emerging-market customers, we are unlocking innovation and growth where connectivity is essential. Our partnership with Q-KON represents a major step toward making premium satellite ground networks accessible to all.”
Building on Q-KON’s Growing Strategic Footprint
The announcement follows a period of considerable deal-making for Q-KON. In May 2025, the company signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Rivada Space Networks to deliver ultra-secure, high-performance connectivity solutions across Africa, leveraging Rivada’s Outernet Low Earth Orbit satellite constellation to enhance data network resilience and support sensitive sectors such as banking and finance.
The latest partnership with ST Engineering iDirect further cements Q-KON’s position as a central enabler of satellite connectivity across the African market.
Together, ST Engineering iDirect and Q-KON will commence deployment of Intuition Unbound across Africa by mid-2026. ST Engineering iDirect has also indicated plans to expand the platform into additional regions globally, extending the benefits of flexible, scalable, and secure satellite ground connectivity worldwide.
