The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia (CRAN) has licensed OneWeb to deliver Eutelsat’s OneWeb Business Broadband satellite connectivity services to Namibia through Q-KON’s distribution partners Echo Namibia, Oblixx Communication Networks (OCN), and RocketNet Namibia.

The licence, issued on 19 February following a year-long examination and compliance process, authorises OneWeb’s distribution partners to provide satellite connectivity services to Namibian businesses in remote areas, as well as to enterprises seeking reliable backup solutions to terrestrial communications infrastructure.

“The exceptional speed, security and low latency offered by OneWeb, combined with the high degree of interoperability with legacy systems, promise a radical upgrade in communications for remote business,” commented Dr Dawie de Wet, Group CEO of Q-KON.

CRAN emphasised that the regulatory process reflects Namibia’s commitment to positioning itself at the forefront of Africa’s satellite revolution. “Through a unique combination of innovation and insistence on proper compliance, Namibian end-users can now enjoy fully licensed access to Eutelsat-OneWeb Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite constellation services,” the regulator stated.

“Now that we have achieved compliance thanks to CRAN’s far-sighted vision for the future of communications services in Namibia, our local service partners can start rolling out Eutelsat-OneWeb LEO services for Namibian business customers,” Dr De Wet added.

Expanding OneWeb’s Namibian Presence

This development follows CRAN’s January 2026 authorisation of Blue Telecommunications (Pty) Ltd, a subsidiary operating under Radio Electronic (Pty) Ltd’s licence, to roll out Eutelsat OneWeb connectivity solutions nationwide. The dual licensing approach reflects Namibia’s strategy to enable multiple distribution channels for satellite broadband services, promoting competition whilst ensuring comprehensive coverage across the country’s diverse and often challenging geographical terrain.
