Senegal and France Sign Strategic Space Partnership to Boost Innovation and Development

The Senegalese Agency for Space Studies (Agence Sénégalaise d’Études Spatiales, ASES) and France’s National Centre for Space Studies (Centre National d’Études Spatiales, CNES) have solidified a strategic partnership to advance Senegal’s space sector. The agreement was formally signed on June 19, 2025, at the Paris Air Show by ASES Director General Maram Kaire and CNES President François Jacq.
This collaboration represents a significant step in Senegal’s national space strategy, championed by His Excellency the President of the Republic of Senegal and the Prime Minister. Furthermore, the partnership underlines a mutual dedication to fostering technological innovation, enhancing local expertise, and leveraging space applications to drive sustainable development.
Key areas of cooperation include capacity building in human resources and technical infrastructure, and the development of joint Earth observation initiatives. Additionally, the agreement will stimulate the growth of a local space industry by encouraging collaboration between academic institutions, research organisations, and private enterprises in Senegal and France.
Similarly, Mr Maram Kaire, Director General of ASES, emphasised the importance of this alliance, stating, “This partnership reflects our vision of establishing a dynamic and resilient space ecosystem in Senegal—one that actively contributes to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals for our nation and the broader African continent.”
Echoing this sentiment, CNES President François Jacq expressed his enthusiasm for the strengthened ties between the two agencies. “We are pleased to formalise this collaboration and look forward to its long-term implementation, ensuring tangible benefits for both nations,” he remarked.
ASES and CNES will develop a detailed action plan in the coming months, prioritising pilot projects and concrete initiatives aligned with Senegal’s strategic objectives. In addition, this partnership not only reinforces bilateral relations but also positions Senegal as an emerging leader in Africa’s space sector, using space technology for socio-economic development.
