NigComSat Hosts RASCOM Delegation
The Managing Director of the Nigerian Communications Satellite Limited (NigComSat), Nkechi Egerton-Idehen and Dr Bosun Tijani, Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, recently hosted a delegation from the Regional African Satellite Communications Organisation (RASCOM), led by Mr Timothy Ashong, Acting Director-General at RASCOM.
During the visit, they discussed strengthening the partnership between both organisations. RASCOM proposed an MoU to facilitate marketing NIGCOMSAT’s satellite capacity to neighbouring countries and accelerate the goal of an interconnected Africa.
Mr Timothy Ashong further highlighted RASCOM’s strategic 5-year plan, which marks a pivotal step towards reinforcing member commitment, fostering African expertise through capacity building, and forging strategic partnerships for technological advancement.
Both organisations have been intensifying efforts and exploring new avenues and areas of collaboration with local and regional industry stakeholders to provide efficient and affordable satellite communication and broadband internet in Nigeria and Africa, respectively. In the last quarter of 2023, NIGCOMSAT ventured on the mission to restructure and review its priorities in Nigeria to provide universal, ubiquitous, and cost-effective access to communications infrastructure throughout the country. Similarly, RASCOM signed an MoU with the Senegalese Space Study Agency(ASES) to enhance and expedite the country’s digitisation initiatives by harnessing the capabilities of satellite communication solutions.
