RSA Organises Nationwide Campaign to Increase the Awareness of Space-based Technologies

On September 19, 2023, the Rwanda Space Agency (RSA) launched a nationwide initiative, heralding a significant step in Rwanda’s journey towards harnessing the potential of space technologies to bolster sustainable development. The campaign, inaugurated in the Northern Province of Rwanda, is poised to create widespread awareness about the government’s dedicated efforts to leverage space-based technologies and tools for the betterment of various sectors critical to the nation’s socio-economic progress, including agriculture, urban development, infrastructure, and healthcare.

The campaign extended its reach to the Southern province, drawing enthusiastic participation from diverse stakeholders. Spearheaded by the Governor of the Southern Province, Alice Kayitesi, and the Director of RSA, Colonel Francis Ngabo, this endeavour convened district leaders, students, educators, agronomists, and individuals eager to gain a deeper understanding of how space-based technologies can be harnessed to foster sustainable development within the nation.

One noteworthy aspect of this initiative is its overarching ambition to replicate such events across the various provinces of Rwanda. This strategic plan underscores the commitment of the RSA to ensure that the benefits of space technology permeate all corners of the country, leaving no sector untouched by its transformative potential.

Notable attendees included the Environmental Systems Research Institute (ESRI) Rwanda, the Rwanda Environment Management Authority (REMA), local authorities, and numerous other key stakeholders. This convergence of expertise and resources underscores the inclusive approach taken by the RSA, highlighting its determination to collaborate extensively with government agencies and organisations. Their collective goal is to harness the wealth of data generated from space technologies to inform decision-making processes, thereby driving inclusive growth and fostering sustainable development within Rwanda.
