South Africa and China Sign Agreements on Space Exploration Activities

According to the Xinhua News Agency, on 22 August 2023, the Chinese President, Xi Jinping, during an official visit, signed two agreements with  South Africa to partner on space exploration activities. 

The agreements, which covers official cooperation on human spaceflight activities and a plan to construct the Worldwide Lunar Analysis Station, backed by China and Russia, aims to enhance China’s standing in the competition for lunar dominance against the United States and its allies. As the race to the moon’s south pole intensifies, especially with the Indian Space Research Organisation landing on the lunar surface, the United States and China will increase efforts to collaborate with  African nations.
