DSA Collaborates with NIGCOMSAT to Develop and Enhance Satellite Services in Nigeria

During a courtesy visit to the Managing Director of Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT), Mr Tukur Lawal, in Abuja, the Chief of Defence Space Administration (DSA), Air Vice Marshal Ahmed Shinkafi, expressed the intent of their agency to collaborate with NIGCOMSAT. He emphasised particular interest in the upcoming inauguration of NigComSat–2 and NigComSat–3 satellites and praised the satellite services already provided by NigComSat–1R.
Furthermore, Air Vice Marshal Shinkafi specifically highlighted the significance of the L-band payload as a valuable innovation and expressed the desire of his agency to actively participate in the preliminary design phase of the NigComSat 2 and 3 satellites to ensure its inclusion in the space infrastructures. In addition, he praised NIGCOMSAT Ltd for their commendable broadband services and advocated for increased collaboration between satellite operators and the military.
In response, Mr Tukur Lawal echoed the sentiment, emphasising the importance of fostering cooperation between NIGCOMSAT and the DSA. In addition, Mr Tukur expressed NIGCOMSAT’s readiness to contribute to advancing space administration in the country actively. He assured that NIGCOMSAT’s engineers would be readily available to provide training to the Chief of Defence Space Administration (CDSA) staff whenever required. Regarding the transponder payload, Mr Tukur Lawal recommended promptly endorsing the Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between both organisations.
