LCRSSS Hosts Delegates from FAO to Explore Technological Innovations in Agriculture

During a strategic visit to the headquarters of the Libyan Centre for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences (LCRSSS), Dr Faisal Shanini, the International Coordinator for the Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations (FAO) projects in Libya under the IagWat – MerWat initiative, along with Dr Basheer Nuer, an Advisor to FAO, were hosted by Dr Akram Al-Kasih, the Director General of the Center, and Dr Shaaban Abdul Samad, the Deputy Director. The visit aimed to ensure both parties engage in discussions regarding the regional collaborative projects between FAO and the Libyan Centre for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences.
These projects are focused on leveraging advanced technologies and spatial data to promote sustainable agricultural practices, enhance water resource management, and facilitate environmental monitoring in Libya.

On the sidelines of the strategic visit, a presentation was conducted via Zoom, highlighting the utilisation of drone technology for aerial photography. The presentation provided valuable insights to the FAO representatives regarding drones’ capabilities and various applications, including capturing high-resolution imagery, mapping agricultural lands, and monitoring natural resources. The exchange of knowledge and expertise in this field is crucial for strengthening the FAO’s initiatives in Libya and fostering efficient, data-driven decision-making processes.

Following the presentation, Dr Faisal Shanini and Dr Basheer Nuer were granted a tour of the different offices and departments housed within the Libyan Centre for Remote Sensing and Space Sciences. This firsthand experience gave them valuable insights into the Center’s cutting-edge facilities, ongoing research endeavours, and the highly skilled professionals dedicated to advancing remote sensing and space science applications in Libya.
