Nigeria’s Minister of Communication and Digital Economy Receives the Turkey Ambassador and Delegates from NIGCOMSAT and Türksat A.Ş

The Minister of Communication and Digital Economy and Director General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), Professor Isa Ali Ibrahim, represented by Professor Sahalu Junaidu, the Chief Research Adviser to the Minister of Communication and Digital Economy, received the Turkish Ambassador to Nigeria, Hidayet Bayraktar and a team from the Türksat Satellite Communications Cable TV and Operations (Türksat A.Ş), in Abuja, Nigeria.
The delegates were accompanied by Engineer Tukur Lawal, the Managing Director of the Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) and other important stakeholders.

The visit aimed to discuss how both satellite-based providers would alleviate the frequency interference difficulties disrupting their smooth operations. Various reasons, including human errors, poor quality of equipment, and malfunctioning technologies, have been identified to cause satellite frequency interference.

In 2018, NIGCOMSAT and Türksat signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to partner on the delivery of satellite-based solutions. The agreement allowed both satellite operators to utilise their resources and specific expertise to provide new and innovative satellite-based solutions.
Furthermore, the MoU provided the needed framework to foster cooperation between the two satellite operators in various areas, including shared satellite ground infrastructure in Africa and Europe, backup capacity arrangements, satellite communications training, broadcast content sharing, and satellite application development with particular emphasis on e-government applications.
