Kenya National Space Agency Has A New Director-General

The Kenya Space Agency bid farewell to the acting Director-General Dr John Kimani on Friday 19 June 2020, the farewell was presided over by the incoming Director-General, Major General Thomas Chepkuto. Dr John Kimani has been part of the team which shaped the Agency, since 2018.

The Kenyan space Agency was established to coordinate and regulate space-related activities in the country and implement the Kenya space policy and other related programs. In September 2018, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) inaugurated the Kenya Space Agency Board (KSAB) by Defence Cabinet Secretary (CS) Rachael Omamo.
Under the leadership of Dr Kimani, the agency facilitated the use of space technologies to address various developmental challenges in the country, while also taking over the leadership of the Africa Regional Data Cube (ARDC) project.

The new Director-General, Major General Thomas Chepkuto has previously held several leadership positions within the Kenyan Defence Force such as the head of special programmes at the Defence headquarters, Director of Military intelligence(DMI) and Deputy Army Commander.
