Thales Alenia Space Awarded At BT100 For Manufacturing Egypt’s TIBA-1 Satellite

Thales Alenia Space has received an award at BT100 Awards, one of Egypt’s foremost industry awards, for manufacturing Tiba-1 communications satellite for the Egyptian government, according to a media report by Egypt Today.

Thales Alenia developed the Tiba-1 communication satellite in collaboration with Airbus Defence and Space as co-prime contractors, with Thales Alenia Space acting as the consortium’s lead partner. Airbus supplied the Eurostar E3000 platform and assembled and tested the spacecraft. Thales Alenia designed and built the communications payload.

The glamorous award ceremony is prominent for bringing together government and private sector actors under one roof. This year’s edition witnessed a massive turn up from cabinet members, businessmen, high profile companies, start-ups, celebrities and journalists.

Thales Alenia was honoured as the lead contractor for the TIBA-1 communications satellite which is widely celebrated in Egypt as a major milestone that will see internet and telecom services cover the entire country. Government officials say the satellite is key to augmenting the country’s terrestrial infrastructure and internet networks, giving millions of people in remote and rural areas internet beamed down from space.

Other awardees at the ceremony include PepsiCo Egypt as the top sustainable investment company in 2019, Samsung Electronics Egypt for top Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) role in scientific research and artificial intelligence, Vodafone Egypt won the public-private partnership award for the automation of the comprehensive health insurance system, among others.

Several government officials, industry leaders, academics and corporates were also awarded for their outstanding accomplishments in 2019 in different sectors and award categories.
