Paratus Zambia Connects 18 Family Legacy Schools to Starlink

Over 10,000 children across 18 Family Legacy schools in Lusaka now have access to stable, high-speed internet after Paratus Zambia completed a Starlink rollout. The entire deployment was carried out in roughly two weeks, bringing an end to years of unreliable connectivity that had disrupted teaching and limited students’ access to digital learning tools.
Conventional infrastructure had long proved inadequate for many of the schools, with their distance from cellular towers and dependence on fixed-line connections leaving them with patchy, inconsistent service. Starlink’s satellite-based technology offered a way around these constraints, requiring little ground infrastructure while delivering consistent performance across all 18 sites simultaneously.
A Difference Already Visible in Classrooms
The effects have been immediate. Teachers and students are using online platforms more regularly, and ICT learners in particular are gaining access to research tools and digital resources that had previously been beyond their reach. Administrative operations across the schools have also become more efficient as a result.
Ms Chimuka H. Mulenga, Associate Director for Local Resource Mobilisation at Family Legacy, described the shift in straightforward terms.
“Reliable connectivity is able to fundamentally change how our schools operate. It has already improved day-to-day efficiency and given our learners reliable access to opportunities that were previously out of reach. Prior to this, we struggled with network access and accessing key information and learning opportunities online. It’s like a dream come true for them and for our teachers. It is a game-changer on every level,” she said.
About Family Legacy
Family Legacy is a US-based Christian organisation that supports over 10,000 Zambian children through a model that goes well beyond classroom education, combining academic programmes with healthcare, nutrition, emotional support, and social development. Many of its students continue into medicine, law, nursing, business, and other professional fields, while others pursue vocational training designed to create direct pathways into employment.
The organisation chose Paratus Zambia as its connectivity partner on the strength of its local presence, its authorised reseller status for Starlink, and its capacity to coordinate installations across multiple sites within a tight timeframe.
Connectivity as an Equaliser
Paratus Zambia Country Manager, Mr Neil Nortjie, described the project as part of a wider effort to close the digital gap in Zambia’s education system.
“Through this partnership, we are helping bridge the digital divide and ensure that learners in underserved communities are not left behind, and that they may benefit from the most advanced educational tools. Connecting the school furthers learning opportunities for students to access information and education outside their borders,” he said.
Family Legacy intends to build on the rollout, with plans to deepen digital access across its school network and embed connectivity as a permanent feature of its long-term education model.
