Simera Sense Partners with PI Group to Advance Precision Space Imaging Technology

Source: Simera Sense

Simera Sense has announced a collaboration with PI (Physik Instrumente) Group, focusing on the design and development of precision mechanisms for space-based imaging systems that will enhance on-orbit optical performance.

The partnership’s initial focus centres on a Mechanical Refocus Mechanism (MRM), which enables precise on-orbit focus adjustment and maintains image quality under challenging conditions such as thermal variations and material tolerances. This innovation directly supports Simera Sense’s vision of Effortless Space Imaging by ensuring consistent optical performance throughout a mission’s lifecycle.

Additionally, the collaboration leverages PI’s world-class expertise in precision motion and positioning systems, which aligns strongly with Simera Sense’s technical requirements and shared vision for robust, high-performance optical payloads. This partnership reinforces the company’s commitment to reliability and innovation, strengthening confidence in the solutions delivered as they continue to push the boundaries of space-based imaging technology.

Building on Recent Strategic Partnerships

This collaboration follows a series of strategic partnerships that showcase Simera Sense’s growing prominence in the Earth observation sector. In November 2025, the company partnered with Zaitra, combining their respective expertise to address pressing bottlenecks in Earth observation data processing.

Prior to that, Simera Sense was selected by Infinite Orbits to supply an optical payload for its upcoming Orbit Guard™ mission, part of the CNES-led France 2030 programme aimed at advancing European space-based Space Situational Awareness (SSA) capabilities.

Strengthening Position in Space Imaging

These successive partnerships demonstrate Simera Sense’s expanding role in the global space imaging ecosystem, from hardware innovation and precision mechanisms to data processing solutions and space domain awareness applications. The collaboration with PI Group represents another significant step in delivering end-to-end imaging solutions that meet the evolving demands of the commercial and institutional space markets.
