EgSA and Axiom Space Sign MoU to Promote Space Exploration and Development

The Egyptian Space Agency (EgSA) and Axiom Space, a leading provider of commercial space infrastructure, have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen collaboration in space science, technology, and human spaceflight. Furthermore, the partnership establishes a framework for joint initiatives, spanning scientific research, technology development, and support for future human spaceflight missions. It underscores the mutual ambition of both entities to accelerate innovation and capacity building within the evolving space economy, estimated to reach USD 1.8 trillion by 2024.

Commenting on the agreement, Professor Dr. Sherif Sedky, CEO of the Egyptian Space Agency, stated:

“This MoU reflects a shared commitment to advancing space technology and scientific research while enhancing the institutional capabilities of both parties. It lays the foundation for pioneering scientific collaboration and exploring space manufacturing opportunities, further reinforcing Egypt’s emergence as a rising force in the global space community.”

Additionally, Tejpaul Bhatia, CEO of Axiom Space, highlighted the strategic relevance of the partnership:

“Egypt has made remarkable strides in positioning itself as a key player in the space sector and a regional hub for space diplomacy, particularly through its hosting of the African Space Agency. At Axiom Space, we are proud to partner with the Egyptian Space Agency to help develop a robust, integrated space ecosystem in Egypt and the broader region, leveraging Axiom’s expertise in cutting-edge infrastructure, innovative technologies, and human spaceflight services.”

The MoU encompasses collaboration across several key domains, including microgravity research, Earth observation applications, and advanced space technologies. Capacity building is also a central focus, with plans to facilitate the exchange of scientists and engineers and promote sustained knowledge transfer, a critical component of its space sector, highlighted by Dr Sedky during an exclusive interview with Space in Africa.

Through this MoU, both entities aim to facilitate the exchange of scientists and engineers, promote knowledge transfer, and encourage innovation in the space industry. The cooperation is expected to pave the way for breakthrough achievements in space exploration, technology advancement, and international collaboration. Furthermore, this partnership will reinforce Egypt’s position as an emerging regional and global space collaboration leader, exemplified by its recent hosting of the 2025 NewSpace Africa Conference, a premier gathering of stakeholders and decision-makers in the African space industry.

This development follows Axiom Space’s recent partnership with the Ghana Space Science and Technology Institute (GSSTI), which aims to accelerate Ghana’s space ambitions and expand its role in the global space economy. The Memorandum of Understanding highlights innovation, talent development, and the enhancement of technological capabilities. GSSTI will draw on Axiom Space’s expertise in human spaceflight and advanced technologies to strengthen its space activities and long-term objectives through this collaboration.
