According to the reports by XXI Century Technologies, the Minister for Information, Communication and Information Technology, Nape Nnauye, announced the country is gearing up to launch its first satellite later in the year. 

The development aligns with President Samia Suluhu’s declaration of Tanzania’s venture into space technology in May 2023 and the expression of interest to launch its first satellite dedicated to monitoring environmental developments, weather trends, surveillance and promoting high-performance connectivity services within the East African nation. In addition, the government is committed to ensuring the successful launch of the country’s first satellite.

The launch represents a bold pathway for Tanzania to accelerate its economic growth and revolutionise its sectoral values. Space data provides remarkable insights into promoting inclusive growth and ensuring relevant stakeholders make strategic decisions. 

Furthermore, the satellite launch will quell growing concerns about the country’s inability to launch a satellite and join neighbouring countries like Ethiopia, Kenya, Mauritius and Rwanda in developing and investing in their space ecosystem for socioeconomic development.
