The Nigerian Communications Satellite (NIGCOMSAT) has partnered with Eutelsat, a global leader in satellite communications, to deliver Low Earth Orbit (LEO) satellite services across Nigeria. The partnership was announced in a statement on Wednesday by the Corporate Affairs office at NIGCOMSAT.

This collaboration will leverage OneWeb’s advanced LEO satellite network to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity solutions for various sectors, including government services, businesses, and rural communities. The initiative will enhance nationwide remote communications, mobile connectivity, and offshore operations.

Managing Director of NIGCOMSAT, Mrs Jane Egerton-Idehen, highlighted the significance of this partnership in bridging Nigeria’s digital divide. She stated, “This partnership marks a major milestone for NIGCOMSAT, allowing us to bridge Nigeria’s digital divide with OneWeb’s advanced LEO satellite technology. Together, we will deliver scalable and reliable connectivity solutions to drive growth across government services, businesses, and communities nationwide.”

The collaboration also underscores the strong ties between Nigeria and France in advancing satellite and space technologies. By combining resources, Eutelsat and NIGCOMSAT aim to foster innovation, accelerate digital transformation, and expand connectivity opportunities within Nigeria and beyond.

NIGCOMSAT, Nigeria’s premier satellite communications provider, is dedicated to delivering top-tier satellite services that empower industries and communities. Its flagship NigComSat-1R satellite supports critical communication, education, health, and security sectors.

Eutelsat Group, formed through a merger with OneWeb in 2023, is the first fully integrated GEO-LEO satellite operator. The company operates a fleet of 35 geostationary satellites and a constellation of over 600 LEO satellites, providing services that span video broadcasting, mobile and fixed connectivity, and government operations, including broadcasting over 6,500 TV channels globally. Eutelsat continues expanding its footprint across Africa by providing satellite connectivity solutions continentally and collaborating with various African stakeholders.

This partnership is poised to significantly enhance Nigeria’s digital infrastructure, providing reliable and high-speed internet connectivity to underserved and remote areas, thereby supporting the nation’s ongoing digital transformation efforts.
