The president of Angola, João Lourenço, spotlighted the far-reaching impact of the Conecta Angola project during his State of the Nation Address on Tuesday. This initiative, powered by the ANGOSAT-2 satellite, is pivotal in bridging the digital divide in Angola’s remote areas.

President Lourenço revealed that 366,000 people in remote regions across 14 provinces now benefit from telephone and internet services through Conecta Angola. He emphasised the project’s significant contribution towards ensuring nationwide digital connectivity, stating, “The challenges of competitiveness imposed by the modern world require that we cannot stop.”

The Conecta Angola project is spearheaded by the Ministry of Telecommunications, Information Technologies, and Social Communication (MINTTICS) and seeks to boost private sector involvement in expanding internet services. It enables micro and small enterprises to leverage the capabilities of ANGOSAT-2 by deploying satellite internet services, reducing the digital divide, and fostering digital inclusion.
