BRICS International Quantum Communications Research Underway

BRICS, a multilateral partnership between Brazil, Russia, India, China, and South Africa have announced a developmental breakthrough in quantum communications. The Shvabe holding of the Russian Rostec State Corporation with the conjoined BRICS research had hitherto announced a project pertaining to quantum communications.
Shvabe and BRICS planned to create an intercontinental satellite quantum communication channel using the latest elements of macro-and fibre optics, which will cover a distance of more than 10 thousand km. This is a great advancement for communications globally.
Quantum communication is a field of applied quantum physics that utilizes quantum information and quantum teleportation. The teleportation is possible due to the application of quantum mechanics. Quantum communication allows almost instant transfer of the encrypted information. Quantum communication became possible with the application of quantum physics. For this project, the new fibre optic photons are being developed and the new technology will be the most advanced technology in the field of quantum communications.
The research project “Satellite and fibre-optic communication of quantum communications”, co-executed by the S. I. Vavilov GOI NGO, is designed for three years. The main performer of the project on the Russian side is the Volga State University of telecommunications and Informatics. In addition to the Rostec structure, the research group also includes the Kazan national research technical University named after A. N. Tupolev.
